Does Reiki really work? A gentle and honest perspective

Exploring doubt, experience, and what Reiki can truly offer

Not everything that matters can be easily explained.

And when something cannot be clearly seen, measured, or defined, it’s natural to question it.

Reiki often lives in that space.

You may feel curious,
but also unsure.
Wondering if it’s real, if it actually does anything,
or if it’s simply something people want to believe in.

That hesitation is valid.

Why doubt is part of the process

Reiki doesn’t fit into the way we’re used to understanding things.

It doesn’t rely on visible action.
It doesn’t give you something to control or analyze.
And it doesn’t always produce immediate, obvious results.

So the mind questions.

And that’s not a problem.

It’s simply how we try to make sense of something unfamiliar.

What “working” can actually look like

We often expect something noticeable.

A clear result.
A visible change.
Something we can point to and say: this worked.

Reiki doesn’t always move that way.

It’s a gentle practice for relaxation and stress reduction.

Reiki is considered a complementary approach and does not replace medical or psychological care.

And even when nothing else is expected or understood,
this alone already creates a shift.

Many of my clients tell me, after a session, that they feel deeply relaxed.
More grounded.
Less tense than they’ve felt in a while.

Sometimes, that’s where it begins.

Not as something spectacular,
but as the body finally letting go of what it has been holding.

When nothing seems to happen

One of the most common thoughts is:

“I didn’t feel anything.”

And I understand that.

Because we’re often looking for a sensation,
something clear, something tangible.

But Reiki doesn’t depend on intensity to be present.

There are sessions that feel very subtle.
Quiet. Almost neutral.

And yet, something is still moving.

Not always where the mind expects it to.

A different way to understand Reiki

Reiki is often described as a life force energy. In my experience, it sometimes seems to move with its own form of intelligence, supporting what feels most needed in the moment.

It doesn’t necessarily go where we think it should.

We might focus on a specific discomfort.
A tension. A pain. A situation we want to resolve.

But sometimes, Reiki responds to something deeper.
Something less visible, but more essential in that moment.

And we don’t always understand it right away.

Sometimes, it only makes sense later,
with a bit of distance.

A personal note

There was a time when I used to offer Reiki before going on vacation.

With a simple intention:
to feel supported, and to allow things to unfold as smoothly as possible.

In 2024, everything went the opposite way.

Our trip was cancelled at the very last moment.
We had no possibility to rebook,

and only a partial refund.

At the time, it felt disappointing.

But a few days later, something unexpected happened.

We adopted a little kitten.

Years before, after losing a beloved cat through a difficult illness,
I had told myself I would never go through that again.

And yet, there she was.

And something, within me, had shifted.

Not in a way I could have planned,

but in a way I could recognize.

What initially felt like something going wrong

became, with a bit of distance, something that allowed me to move through that grief in a different way.

It made me reconsider what it means for something to “work.”

So… does Reiki really work?

It can.

But not always in the way we expect it to.

It doesn’t always give immediate answers.
It doesn’t always respond to the surface of what we ask.

But it creates movement.

Sometimes through relaxation.
Sometimes through subtle shifts.
And sometimes through changes that only become clear later.

A different way to approach it

You don’t need to be convinced for Reiki to meet you.

You don’t need to fully understand it either.

You can simply start with an experience.

If you’re curious, you can explore a few guided sessions on YouTube as a gentle way to feel into it.

And if you feel ready for a more personal space, you can also explore my Reiki sessions.

Not to prove anything.

Just to see what unfolds for you.
